Mayor Evelio Leonardia is looking forward to forge a close working relationship with Police Col. Thomas Joseph Martir, newly-designated acting director of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) in the government’s fight against COVID-19.
Leonardia, in a press release, said that he expects Martir, a Bacolodnon, to “perform well” and to help the city government in its campaign versus the pandemic.
“The police should be the muscle in the fight against COVID-19,” the mayor said.
Martir was last assigned at Camp Crame’s Police Security and Protection Group before his appointment as the new BCPO head.
Martir succeeded Police Col. Manuel Placido, who is now assigned at Camp Crame’s EOD-K9 Unit.
“My focus here in Bacolod is to increase police visibility, as well as campaign against illegal drugs and other forms of criminality. We also have to prepare for the upcoming elections and to focus on the fight against COVID-19,” Martir said.*
