Murcia Mayor Victor Gerardo Rojas commended recently the Murcia Philippine National Police Officer-in-Charge, P/Capt. Jerald V. Muya, and his entire staff for exemplary achievements in the performance of their duties.
Rojas cited the Murcia PNP’s unrelenting drive was against illegal drugs, particularly in the arrest of two suspected drug pushers and the confiscation of more than 600 grams of suspected shabu valued at more than PhP4 million, in a joint operation with elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency last May 4, in Brgy. Alegria, Murcia, a press release said.
Under the leadership of Muya, who was assigned to Murcia on March 3, the Murcia PNP has waged an unrelenting war against illegal drugs, has successfully apprehended numerous wanted persons, and has generally improved the peace and order in the town, as well as bolstered the confidence of the Murciahanons on the professionalism of the Murcia PNP personnel, the mayor said.
The mayor explained that, mainly due to the successful campaign against illegal drugs, the number of crimes in the municipality has been reduced by approximately 20 percent, compared to the same period last year.
“I support President Duterte’s campaign against illegal drugs, because most crimes are drug-related. Once we eliminate drugs, we can greatly reduce crimes,” the mayor added.
“Let’s continue the campaign against illegal drugs, and also against illegal gambling,” Rojas said.
The mayor assured the Murcia PNP of his continued support, and informed them that he will allocate funds next year for the purchase of weapons, ammunition and equipment for the Murcia PNP Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.
He also encouraged Muya to pursue further studies, so that he can be promoted to the next rank of major and be qualified to become the town’s full-pledged PNP chief. And since Muya is still young, he can even reach the rank of general in his career, he said.
Vice Mayor Johnny Reosura also praised the Murcia PNP for their accomplishments.
“We in the legislative branch salute and pledge our full support to the Murcia PNP. Congratulations to Capt. Muya and all the Murcia PNP personnel and staff, who tirelessly perform their duties in maintaining peace and order, and also finds time to serve our community thru their outreach programs,” Resoura said.
Muya is no stranger to Murcia. In what he considers as his first assignment after taking his oath as a police officer, he was the town’s deputy PNP chief in 2014 to 2016, and he is also married to a Murciahanon.
“This recognition is very heart-warming. We are being recognized, even though we did not ask for this honor, and even though we are only doing our jobs faithfully and diligently,” Muya said.
“We are happy that the LGU supports us. I also thank the Murcia PNP personnel and staff for your support and cooperation, which made it possible for us to achieve these accomplishments. This will not be the last accomplishment. I assure you we will eliminate illegal drugs in Murcia,” Muya said.*
