Mayor Richard Jaojoco is calling on Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon to look into a road project in Toboso that was damaged by heavy rains on Saturday, Jan. 31.
The side of the road in Barangay San Isidro, Toboso, that caved in is approximately 50 to 75 meters long, the mayor said on Sunday.
The DPWH undertook the project early last year, and that same side of the road had previously caved in. The contractor repaired it, but the same thing happened again on Saturday, Jaojoco said.
When the road collapsed on Saturday, it was discovered that sacks filled with dirt had been used for the road’s riprap, the mayor said.
He is asking Dizon to investigate the project because it seems irregular and “abnormal” for sacks to be used as riprap material.

Jaojoco said that the rains and subsequent floods on Saturday also triggered six landslides in Toboso: three in Brgy. Bug-ang, one in Sitio Canubgan, Brgy. Bandila, and two in Brgy. Magticol.
The mayor has canceled classes in Toboso on Monday due to the effects of the flooding. He said that many residents have lost their belongings and clothes in the floods.*
