Mayor asks NBI to investigate P306M alleged flood projects in San Carlos

San Carlos Mayor Renato Gustilo*

Mayor Renato Gustilo has asked the National Bureau of Investigation to investigate the report that three flood control projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) worth P306 million were undertaken in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

The DPWH national office wrote to him for confirmation that there were three flood control projects completed in San Carlos City by contractors who are not from Negros, Gustilo told DIGICAST NEGROS on Monday, August 18.

He said they wrote back to the DPWH that they never received such big projects from the contractors named.

What I know is that the flood control projects here were undertaken by contractors from Bacolod under the DPWH District, he said.

Gustilo said the DPWH was asking about the following flood control projects supposedly undertaken in San Carlos City:

  • P151.5 million flood control project in Brgy Palampas by A.P.O. General Construction from the Mountain Province;
  • P77.5 million flood control in Ando-on river by EKC Construction from Benguet; and
  • P77.3 million flood control project into the Jigalaman River in Brgy Guadalupe by Jaben General Contracting & Engineering Services from Benguet.
  • There were no such contractors who implemented flood control projects in San Carlos, which was also denied by the local DPWH, that is why he has asked the NBI to investigate the matter, Gustilo said.*
