Twenty-five couples were united in marriage during the “Kasalan sa Barangay” held at the Malubon Covered Court in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, on Monday, March 30, in time for the barangay fiesta.
Mayor Leo Rafael “Bebo” Cueva, Councilor Ching Javellana, Councilor Roldan Gamao, and Brgy. Captain Joseph Añalucas witnessed the ceremony, celebrating the union of couples, many of whom have been together for years.
Each couple received their own wedding cake, adding a personal touch to the celebration.
Añalucas expressed gratitude to the couples for taking part in the program, emphasizing the importance of marriage in building strong families and securing opportunities for their children, especially in school and other requirements.
Of the 25 couples, 12 were married under a marriage license, while 13 qualified under Article 34 of the Family Code, having lived together for at least five years.
Mayor Cueva underscored the value of formalizing unions, noting that marriage strengthens families and provides legal recognition important for couples and their children.
“Marriage strengthens your family, gives you legal protection, and secures your future, especially for your children,” the mayor said.
He added, “We are grateful to barangay leaders who continue to make this program possible. Through this, we help couples take an important step toward a more stable and secure life.”
