Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator, Robert Empedrad, led the inauguration of the MARINA Training Institute at the Panaad Park in Bacolod City, Tuesday afternoon, May 24.
The inauguration of the academic arm of MARINA is a welcome development for the province, and its building will pave the way for the improvement of the capacities of MARINA to adapt to the fast-changing trends in the maritime industry, and to serve as an effective training and education facility to all maritime professionals in the province, Lacson said.
The maritime industry is greatly instrumental in the achievement of inclusive growth and socio-economic progress, he added.
“A reliable and modern Philippine fleet, with skilled and competent seafarers will pave the way for stability of trade and progress as we forge on towards the recovery of our country and province,” Lacson said.
They were also joined by MARINA Deputy Administrator for Operations, Engr. Nannette Villamor – Dinopol, Deputy Administrator for Planning, Sonia Malalaluan, Financial and Administrative Service (MFAS) Director Nenita Atienza, Regional Director Felisa Orongan of MARINA VI, and Ruby Badoy, among others.*
