Marcos to sign NIR into law on Thursday, governor says

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is scheduled to sign the creation of the Negros Island Region into law on Thursday, June 13, Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Tuesday. 

The president  invited Lacson to witness the ceremonial signing of Senate Bill No. 2507 and House Bill No. 7355, entitled “An Act Establishing The Negros Island Region” at  the  Ceremonial Hall of Malacañan Palace  2 p.m.  Thurday. 

The invitation was sent to the governor on Tuesday, June 11, by Secretary Mark Llandro Mendoza, Presidential Adviser on Legislative   Affairs. 

The NIR will be composed of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor. 

At present, Negros Occidental belongs to Western Visayas, while Negros Oriental and Siquijor are under Central Visayas. 

House Bill No. 7355 was authored by all of the representatives of Negros Island and Siquijor. 

The president  is also set to sign Senate Bill No. 2386 and House Bill No. 6558, entitled “An Act Instituting Reforms In Real Property Valuation And Assessment In The Philippines, Reorganizing The Bureau Of Local Government Finance, Granting Of Tax Amnesty on Real Property And Special Levies On Real Property, And Appropriating Funds Therefor” on Thursday.*
