
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed Republic Act No. 11935 postponing the December 2022 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, Rep. Juliet Marie Ferrer (Neg. Occ., 4th District) said Wednesday, October 12.
RA 11935 postpones the Barangay and SK elections on December 5 this year to the last Monday of October 2023, Ferrer, House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms vice chairperson, said.
“There shall be synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, which shall be held on the last Monday of October 2023 and every three years thereafter,” the law signed by the president on Monday, October 10, said.
The terms of office of the new Barangay and SK officials will start at noon of November 30 following their election, the law also said.
“Until their successors shall have been duly elected and qualified, all incumbent Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials shall remain in office, unless sooner removed or suspended,” it added.
RA 11935 is a consolidation of House Bill No. 4673 and Senate Bill No. 1306.
Ferrer authored House Bill 00121 that was consolidated into HB 4673.*
