
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is scheduled to inspect a water treatment plant in Murcia, Negros Occidental, on Monday, Jan. 19, Bacolod Rep. Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez said on Sunday.
The president’s visit is expected to underscore the national government’s support for large-scale environmental and utility initiatives.
The facility, known as the Sum-ag Water Treatment Plant, is described as a critical component of the Bacolod Bulk Water Inc. (BBWI) Phase 2 bulk water project.
The Sum-Ag Water Treatment Plant was completed January 2025, with the 12.5-km Murcia–Bacolod transmission pipeline completed in March 2025.
Currently it delivers 15 MLD of potable water, data provided to the office of Benitez said.
The Sum-Ag Water Treatment Plant is BOI-accredited with the Department of Trade and Industry .
The Bacolod–Murcia Bulk Water System is of strategic importance as is designed to reduce reliance on finite and unsustainable groundwater sources, improve water security, public health, and climate resilience.
BBWI is a subsidiary of the Tubig Pilipinas Group Inc.
Meanwhile, Malacañang announced that the municipality of Candoni, Negros Occidental, will observe a special non-working day on Feb. 11.
This declaration, made in accordance with Proclamation No. 1137, is in honor of the Dinagyaw sa Tablas Festival.
The annual celebration pays tribute to the early settlers of the area who successfully transformed vast forestlands into the fertile, thriving communities that exist today, the Palace announcement said.*
