The Rotary Club of Bacolod-Marapara recently joined with Rotary clubs around the world to celebrate the 120th anniversary of Rotary International.
Founded in February, 1905, by Paul Harris in Chicago, Rotary started as a small group of professionals committed to friendship and service, a press release from the club said.
Today, it has grown into a global network of 1.4 million members in over 46,000 clubs, tackling issues like eradicating polio, supporting education, providing clean water and advancing Alzheimer’s research.
“For 120 years, Rotary has been making a difference in communities worldwide through service, leadership and fellowship,” Virgil Rupert “Igie” Villarosa, club president, said.
“As we celebrate Rotary’s remarkable 120th birthday, I extend my sincere thanks to all members and supporters of the Rotary Club of Bacolod-Marapara for their unwavering commitment and generosity which has been the cornerstone of our mission to create positive and lasting change in our local community”, he said.
The Rotary Club of Bacolod-Marapara was chartered in 1992. The club undertakes many community outreach activities each year including medical missions, coastal clean-ups, feeding programs, school supplies, computer literacy programs, mangrove planting and support for Eco-tourism projects, the press release said.*
