
A man was shot dead by a barangay tanod following an altercation in Brgy. Sikatuna, Isabela, Negros Occidental, on Monday night, April 27.
Police identified the victim as “Savy,” a laborer, while the suspect was “Teodor,” 62, a barangay tanod of Brgy. Sikatuna.
Initial investigation by the Isabela Municipal Police Station showed the suspect was guarding a truck loaded with sugarcane when the victim allegedly set fire to the cargo, partially damaging it.
Authorities said the suspect approached the victim to warn him, but the latter reportedly threw stones and engaged in a physical confrontation while armed with a bladed weapon.
During the scuffle, the suspect drew his firearm and shot the victim multiple times.
The victim was rushed to Ignacio Lacson Arroyo Sr. Memorial District Hospital but was declared dead.
Police said the firearm used, a .45 caliber pistol with legal documents, was voluntarily surrendered by the suspect.*
