A 44-year-old man was shot dead by six unidentified men in a remote area of Barangay Manghanoy, La Castellana, Negros Occidental, on Monday night, Jan. 5.
The victim was identified as Rehny Francisco Bello, a laborer and resident of the area.
Police said the shooting happened at around 6:30 p.m. in Sitio Old Manghanoy, about 18 kilometers from the La Castellana police station.
The victim was with his cousin at a small fishpond when six unidentified men suddenly emerged from a nearby sugarcane plantation, the police said..
Police said the suspects approached the victim and shot him several times.
The suspects reportedly shouted in the vernacular, “Dugay ka na namon ginpangita” (We have been looking for you for a long time), before fleeing.
The victim was rushed to the Rural Health Unit but was declared dead by the attending physician.*
