A man died while two others were injured after being electrocuted while transferring a steel streetlight post in Purok 1, Barangay Nabalian, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, Thursday morning, July 10.
The fatality was identified as alias “Jade,” 26 , while his companions, alias “Kent,” 43, and alias “Kim,” sustained injuries.
Lt. Peter Genovea, Himamaylan Deputy Police Chief, said the post accidentally hit a cut electrical cable that was left hanging and came into contact with a live Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative main line, causing the fatal incident.
Genovea said that the three men were reportedly instructed by the barangay captain of Nabalian to transfer a steel post intended to hold a solar streetlight.
However, as they moved the post, it touched a dangling cable.
Though the cut wire was not directly connected to the main power line, it was hanging in a way that made contact with the live 13,200-volt line of the NOCECO, leading to the electrocution.
Jade suffered the most severe injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
Kent is currently confined at a hospital, while Kim has already been discharged.
The barangay captain has assured the victims’ families that all hospital and burial expenses will be shouldered, the police added.*
