A 34-year-old man died after he allegedly jumped off a roll-on, roll-off vessel in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed Thursday, February 10.
The passenger, a resident of Molo, Iloilo, boarded the vessel bound for Dumangas, Iloilo, past lunchtime, Commander Joe Luviz Mercurio, PCG-northern Negros Occidental commander, said.
The uncle of the victim, who was also on the vessel, tried to stop him from jumping off the ship, the PCG report said.
Rescuers found his body minutes later.
Mercurio, citing the statement of the victim’s family, said he was suffering from depression or a nervous breakdown.*
