Man killed in hacking incident in Hinoba-an

A 67-year-old farmer died after he was hacked by a neighbor in Brgy. San Rafael, Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental, Thursday afternoon, Dec. 4.

The police identified the victim as a 67-year-old married farmer from the same barangay.

The suspect, identified as alias “Ray,” 41, jobless, and also a resident of San Rafael, was arrested minutes after the attack.

The Hinoba-an police said they received a call from a concerned citizen at around 3 p.m. reporting the hacking incident.

Initial investigation showed that the victim was sitting inside his house when the suspect passed by and, without provocation, suddenly hacked him, hitting his head, chest and arms.

The suspect was believed to be intoxicated during the attack.

The victim was brought to the Eleuterio Decena Memorial Hospital in Brgy. Bacuyangan but was declared dead by the attending physician.

With help from residents, authorities apprehended the suspect, who is now detained at the Hinoba-an Police Station.

The police are preparing the sworn statements of witnesses for the filing of appropriate criminal charges.*
