Silay City Mayor Joedith Gallego has created a committee to investigate the cause of the dump truck crash that left seven dead and 18 injured in Barangay Guimbalaon, Silay City, on June 27.
The committee is composed of representatives of various departments, Gallego said on Friday, July 4.
The Silay City government employees onboard the dumptruck were returning from a tree planting activity when it fell on its side in Hda Paho, Brgy Guimbalaon.
Six of the injured remain in a hospital, one in the Intensive Care Unit and two are scheduled to be discharged, Lt. Col. Mark Darroca, Silay City police chief, said.
The driver who sustained broken ribs has been released from police custody, he added.
There is only one of the injured who has not decided whether to file a case or not against the driver, Darroca said.
The rest are not interested in filing a lawsuit, he said.
The local government has assisted the victims, Darroca added.
The brakes of the dumptruck failed as it was traversing a downhill section of the road, Darroca said.*
