Twenty-nine members of the Lupon Tagapamayapa of barangays Granada and Handumanan in Bacolod City completed the two-day barangay justice training conducted by the Rotary Club of Bacolod Central, in partnership with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Negros Occidental Chapter.

The training, hosted by Granada village chief Alfredo Talimodao Jr., was facilitated by assistant city prosecutors John Nil Acero and Ramon Jose Iligan with expressed clearance from city prosecutor Theresa Ditching.

Club president Juliana Carbon, past president Josephine Natalaray and IBP local chapter vice president Jerry Llena also assisted in the training.

The participants were taught mediation techniques for criminal offenses that can be handled by the Lupon.

They were also briefed on latest Supreme Court rulings on the importance of barangay conciliation as precondition for filing court actions and review of Katarungan Pambarangay law.

The Barangay Justice training has been a project of the club since 2008 that was initiated by the Negros Economic Development Foundation. It is also one of Rotary International’s areas of focus on peace and conflict resolution.*
