LTO serves show cause order, confiscates license of SK secretary in fatal crash that killed a senior citizen

The Land Transportation Office-Negros Island Region served a show cause order and confiscated the driver’s license of a Sangguniang Kabataan secretary whose motorcycle hit  a senior citizen couple on a pedestrian lane in Bacolod City, killing the woman and injuring her husband.

LTO-NIR personnel went to the motorcycle rider’s residence in Brgy. 9 on Thursday, June 25, hours after the fatal road incident in front of the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital at Lacson Street at around 3:41 a.m. Thursday, June  25.

The order directs the rider, alias “Zyrll,” 24, to explain his  violations of traffic laws and regulations arising from the crash.

The show cause order also carries the preventive suspension of his driver’s license pending the outcome of the administrative proceedings.

LTO-NIR said personnel from its Intelligence and Investigation Unit confiscated the rider’s license as part of the proceedings.

The order was received and explained to the respondent’s father because the rider and his back rider were still recovering from injuries sustained in the crash.

Police said a 63-year-old woman and her 73-year-old husband were crossing the pedestrian lane after leaving the hospital when the Yamaha Aerox motorcycle driven by Zyrll struck them.

The woman died after hitting her head on the pavement, while her husband, the rider, and his back rider were injured.

Brgy. 9 Captain Anthony Quilla earlier confirmed that Zyrll serves as the barangay’s SK secretary.

Police said the motorcycle was estimated to be traveling at around 70 kilometers per hour before the collision.

Traffic Enforcement Unit chief Capt. Elmer Bonilla also said the rider was allegedly intoxicated, while witnesses claimed that the riders were carrying alcoholic beverages.

LTO-NIR said further administrative action will be pursued while observing due process under existing laws and regulations.*
