The Land Transportation Office–Negros Island Region will issue a show cause order against a motorcycle rider involved in a road rage incident along the national highway in Barangay Salvacion, Murcia, Negros Occidental.
LTO-NIR OIC regional director Jeck Conlu said on Monday, Marh 9, that the order will require the rider to explain why his driver’s license should not be suspended, revoked, or subjected to other administrative sanctions.
A police blotter report from the Murcia Municipal Police Station said the incident involved a Toyota Wigo driven by a 67-year-old resident of Murcia and a Honda Beat motorcycle driven by a 30-year-old resident of Silay City.
Investigation showed that both vehicles were traveling in the same direction when the motorcycle rider allegedly overtook and blocked the Toyota Wigo in Purok Bernabe, Brgy. Salvacion.
Police said the rider reportedly assaulted the driver and repeatedly punched him, causing injuries to the victim’s face.
A video of the alleged assault circulated on social media on March 8 and drew backlash from netizens.
Both individuals were brought to the Municipal Health Unit for medical examination.
Authorities took the motorcycle rider into police custody following the incident.
LTO-NIR said it will conduct administrative proceedings as part of its mandate to enforce road safety and discipline among motorists.*
