A 57-year-old livestock trader was killed while his wife was injured after an unidentified gunman shot them multiple times in Brgy. Bunga, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, early Wednesday morning, July 30.

The couple were tending to their stall in Purok Caimito, Brgy. Bunga, when the suspect approached and opened fire.

The man sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head and was declared dead at the Don Salvador Benedicto Rural Health Unit.

His 48-year-old wife, who was also shot in the head, survived the attack and is now in stable condition.

She will be transferred to a hospital in Bacolod City, the police said.

Capt. Ignacio Javier, Don Salvador Benedicto Deputy Police Chief, said investigators recovered two fired cartridges from a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.

Authorities are waiting for the results of a post-mortem examination to determine whether the male victim sustained additional injuries.

Javier said the couple had no known enemies, based on initial interviews with neighbors and relatives.

The male victim was known in the community as a livestock trader who sold pigs and occasionally fish.

He also worked as a farmer, police said.

An investigation is ongoing to identify the suspect and establish the motive behind the shooting, Javier said.*
