
Leptospirosis cases in Bacolod City have increased by 75 percent, with 14 reported cases and six probable deaths from January 1 to July 5, the City Health Office (CHO) reported Monday, July 14..
The latest figures show a sharp rise compared to the same period last year, which recorded only eight cases and two deaths.
In the most recent monitoring from June 29 to July 5, CHO documented one new case. Two cases were also recorded from June 15 to 21.
Barangays Banago, Handumanan, and Felisa each logged two cases, while one case each was reported in Barangays 12, 21, 1, Mansilingan, Bata, Villamonte, Sum-ag, and Estefania.
The CHO has reminded residents to avoid wading in floodwaters, wear protective gear such as boots and gloves during rainy days, and keep their surroundings clean to help prevent infection.*
