La Consolacion College Bacolod (LCCB) is holding a benefit dinner concert to support the Center for Music, Arts, and Culture establishment, a project aimed at reinvigorating the arts and culture programs, once a popular feature of education and training at LCC Bacolod.
Titled “Everlasting Light, a Christmas Carol for a Dark World”, the concert is a cantata featuring the music by Claire Cloninger and Mark Hayes that will be held at the LCCB main campus quadrangle 6:30 p.m. Friday, December 16.
It is conducted by Ar Jico Monte, the chorale’s director, who is also a faculty member in the School of Architecture, Fine Arts, and Interior Design.
Even during the pandemic, preparations were undertaken to work on this long-term project, including re-organizing the LCC Chorale. The concert is to be its first-ever formal performance to a public audience, a press release from LCC said Wednesday, December 14.
It was supposed to be staged in December last year but did not push through because of the typhoon that hit the Negros island.
“This time is a perfect time as even the pandemic seems like it is coming to an end. With students back on campus, the chorale was able to recruit more members and prepare for a fuller performance,” the press release said.
Sister Joan BC S. Infante, LCCB president, who is on top of the organizing work, sees music as the language of the soul, which can touch people in meaningful ways. She said that the goal is to provide a space where people may deeply appreciate the true meaning of Christmas.
“Indeed, the world has been grieving. It is all around us right now, when many of us have lost the lives we have all been accustomed to and many people we love, jobs, or ways of life. This is not a good time for extravagant celebrations, but rather a time for a deep appreciation of life, of us being sustained by Christ amid our grief, casting light upon our darkness”, she said.
The cantata highlights the commemoration of the advent season. “This is one way we could prepare our mind and heart for the coming of Jesus Christ — our hearts to become a worthy dwelling for the coming of the One True Light,” she added.
Alumni, students, parents, and other stakeholder groups are expected to attend the benefit dinner concert. Among the major supporters of the event is the Adult Student Government Council of the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program.*
