La Consolacion College-Bacolod and Germany-based University of Kassel will conduct a research project on solid waste management in Bacolod City that involves women and local communities from October 2023 to June 2024.
LCC, in a press statement, said that both schools will conduct a research project focused on Solid Waste Management within Bacolod to pave the way for innovative solutions to the city’s pressing environmental challenges while prioritizing the active involvement of women and local communities.
A memorandum of agreement between the schools was signed by LCC President Sr. Joan Brigida Corazon S. Infante and Dr. Prof. Ralf Wagner, chair of Sustainable Marketing at UniKassel, at LCC-B on Monday, October 16.
The University of Kassel aims to partner with LCCB to gather specialized qualitative information from women and residents of six selected barangays within Bacolod City.
These communities include barangays 1, 3, 8, 13, Singcang-Airport and Felisa.
The research project also aims to lay the groundwork for identifying sustainable solutions to Bacolod City’s solid waste management challenges, the press statement added.
LCC-B will host a series of “women empowerment workshops” for 15 members of the Informal Waste Sector Association of Bacolod City in Barangay Felisa.
The MOA signing was also witnessed by representatives from various organizations, including Holger Diehl and Heike Gundlich from the Hessian Ministry, and Gabriele Kohlisch from the GIZ Head Office.
