Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson (Nationalist People’s Coalition) said on Wednesday, May 7, that the latest local survey shows that if elections were held today, he would win the governorship.
The survey also shows that Jose Benito Alonso who is running for vice governor and Vice Governor Jeffery Ferrer, who is running for congressman of the Fourth District, will win, he said.
Alonso and Ferrer are members of the National Unity Party/United Negros Alliance.
Ther four other candidates for governor are former Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca (Partido Demokratiko Pilipino) Ferdinand Diego (Independent) , Ernesto Librando (independent) and Paul Octaviano (Partido Lakas ng Masa).
Running for vice governor against Alonso is Rosemarie Dreyfus (Partido Lakas ng Masa), while Ferrer is being challenged by Lea Delfinado (NPC).
The governor is confident Ferrer will win.
Lacson said he is not running to beat his previous number of votes, but to find out if the Negrenses are in favor of his last term.
He said from the very first survey last year to the one held last week the numbers in his favor are really very good.
“I will just thank the Negrenses when it is already official after the May 12 elections,” he said.*
