The Philippine Science High School (PSHS) System Board of Trustees has officially approved the site for the Philippine Science High School–Negros Island Region Campus in Barangay Granada, marking the largest campus in the history of the PSHS System.
The Board Resolution approving the campus site was presented by officials of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the PSHS System Board of Trustees during a meeting with Mayor Greg Gasataya on Wednesday, August 5, a press release from the Bacolod City Communications Office said.
Gasataya welcomed the development and assured the officials of the Bacolod City Government’s full support for the establishment and operation of the new campus, with groundbreaking targeted for November 2026.
Ronnalee Orteza, Executive Director of the PSHS System, expressed optimism over what will become the school’s biggest expansion project to date.
“This will complete our 17 campuses all over the country based on the law. This will be the biggest campus so far—bigger than our 7-hectare main campus in Quezon City—and we want to start things right,” Orteza said.
The nearly 10-hectare regional campus, scheduled to begin operations in July 2027, will accommodate up to 720 students.
For School Year 2027–2028, the campus is expected to admit its first batch of 120 Grade 7 students.
DOST and PSHS officials will conduct school-to-school information campaigns in public and private schools across the Negros Island Region toward the end of 2026 to encourage qualified Grade 6 pupils to apply for the Philippine Science High School National Competitive Examination on January 30, 2027.
Successful applicants will receive full government scholarships covering free tuition, textbooks, monthly stipends, and other educational benefits.
The new campus is expected to provide academically gifted students from Bacolod City and the Negros Island Region with greater access to quality education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Gasataya said the project will further strengthen Bacolod’s position as an emerging hub for education, research, and innovation while preparing more young Bacolodnons to become future scientists, engineers, innovators, and national leaders.*
