Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson confirmed today, February 3, that he is seeking reelection in 2022 and the challenge is to keep the Love Negros-United Negros Alliance (UNegA) coalition together.

He said they would like the coalition at the provincial level to extend all the way down to the local government units.

Lacson of Love Negros and Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer of UNegA ran under a coalition at the provincial level in 2019, and have said they will maintain that partnership in the 2022 polls.

“We want to continue working together,” the governor said.

Thirteen of the 31 Negros Occidental mayors are members of UNegA, Cadiz Mayor Salvador Escalante, UNegA secretary-general, said.
Love Negros has more mayors, but the governor said it does not really matter under a collation.

If the COVID-19 threat continues, the governor said they may have to adopt new modes of campaigning to avoid mass gatherings and house to house campaigns.

They may have to adopt, among other methods, online campaigns to bring their messages across, he said.

The governor said a three-day voting period may be a method that could also be adopted to ensure social distancing.

Lacson reiterated that he is not in favor of mailing in votes, like what happened during the United States presidential elections.*
