Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer on Friday, Feb. 14, stressed that they are committed to peaceful elections in May and will sign the Commission on Elections covenant for peace soon.
Lacson and Ferrer were unable to attend the signing of the covenant at Camp Alfredo M. Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City on Thursday. Only 13 of 41 candidates for various Negros Occidental provincial posts attended the rites.
The governor was in Manila to receive Negros Occidental’s Certificate of Approval for its six-year Provincial Development and Physical Framework Plan from the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development.
The governor, who is seeking reelection in the May polls, said when there is time he will sign the peace covenant.
“Anyway just like before my commitment for a peaceful election is steady,” he said.
Ferrer also said he is also committed to ensuring peaceful polls because it is important that the people are able to vote and choose the right leaders.
The vice governor called on candidates not to resort to black propaganda and to instead focus on what they can do for the people.
Ferrer is running for representative of the 4th District of Negros Occidental.*
