Laborer killed on in Cauayan, son of brgy captain suspect

A 30-year-old laborer was killed in a shooting incident shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day in Brgy. Isio, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, police said.

The victim was identified as Erwin Flores, a resident of Purok 7, Brgy. Isio.

The suspect was identified as Keyer Agustin, 33, and a resident of Brgy Isio and the son of the barangay captain.

Initial police investigation showed that the suspect earlier had a misunderstanding with the nephew of the victim, prompting the suspect to leave the area while allegedly uttering threats.

Authorities said the suspect later returned and confronted Flores, who attempted to walk away to avoid further trouble.

Police said the suspect allegedly shot the victim from behind, hitting him in the back.

The victim reportedly retaliated by hacking the suspect, causing injuries.

The suspect then allegedly fired more shots, hitting the victim on vital parts of the body.

Both the victim and the suspect were rushed to the Cauayan District Hospital for medical treatment.

Flores was declared dead by the attending physician.

The suspect is currently undergoing medical treatment and is being prepared for referral to a hospital in Bacolod City.

The Cauayan police are continuing their investigation and preparing appropriate charges against the suspect.*
