La Castellana, Moises Padilla waiting for okay to use Palace aid, DSWD release of housing help

The La Castellana and Moises Padilla mayors are also still waiting for the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to fully release assistance to their constituents whose houses were destroyed and damaged during recent typhoons.

They are also waiting for the paperwork to be completed to be able to spend the P10 million each given by Malacañang as typhoon recovery aid to their towns, La Castellana Mayor Añejo Nicor and Moises Padilla Mayor Ella Garcia Yulo said Monday, Dec. 8.

The two mayors said they are still waiting for the confirmation from Malacañang that they can start using the P10 million.

Nicor said the DSWD allocated P4 million in housing assistance for La Castellana residents whose houses were destroyed by the recent typhoons but it is not enough to cover all those affected.

Under the DSWD’s emergency cash transfer (ECT) program, beneficiaries with partially damaged houses will receive P5,000 while those with totally damaged houses will receive P10,000.

He said there were 1,584 destroyed houses and 15,823 damaged in La Castellana.

For now they are only distributing assistance to those whose houses were destroyed, and there are still a lot more who have not received such assistance, which is a problem, Nicor said.

Nicor said he was told that an additional amount will be allocated for the housing aid next year.

The DSWD disclosed that the release of the housing aid will be next year because they have no more funds available for 2025, Garcia said.

Meanwhile, the municipal government is set to start subdividing the property donated from the estate of her grandmother Cecilia Montilla Garcia Golez to be used as a relocation site for those who lost their houses, she said.

Yulo said almost 1,000 houses were destroyed and close to 4,000 were damaged in Moises Padilla.*
