Vice Mayor Rhummyla Nicor Mangilimutan said the La Castellana municipal government in Negros Occidental is eyeing the purchase of a relocation site for Typhoon Tino-displaced residents in Brgy. Robles.

The landowner has sent a letter of intent expressing willingness to sell an 8.3-hectare property to be used as the relocation site, Mangilimutan said on Thursday, Dec. 18.

The area is about two kilometers from the highway, she said.

The relocation site is for families who lived within 15 meters of the riverbanks and in areas where houses were washed out that have been declared no-build zones, she said.

The property can accommodate about 300 families at 60 square meters each, she said.

Mangilimutan said about 6 hectares of the property is flat and the rest is sloping.

Other families have already found areas to relocate to, Mangilimutan added.

The municipal government will have the value of the property assessed by the Provincial Assessor’s Office, she said.

She said if they buy the property, ₱3.7 million will come from the ₱10 million Presidential Assistance Fund given to La Castellana.

The landowner is willing to accept a staggered payment for the rest of the balance, she added.*
