Rep. Francisco “Kiko” Benitez (Negros Occidental, 3rd District) said on Friday, September 3, is bringing a school-based competition challenging high school students of the third district of Negros Occidental to sharpen knowledge and pit learning skills among peers during this most difficult pandemic period.
Kwizko ni Kiko, the first to be launched in the district and in the province, opens opportunity for Grade 10-high school students who are residents and are enrolled in schools in the Third District to experience a blended mode of contest -on-line and face-to-face encounter testing comprehension in Mathematics, Science and Technology, Language/Reading/Literature, Social Studies and Current Events, a press release said.
Partnering with the Department of Education, University of the Philippines in the Visayas, TUP-V and the local government units of the Third District – EB Magalona, Murcia, Silay, Talisay and Victorias, Kwizko will be launched in October this year, targeting the participation of about 50 public and private secondary schools in the District, it said.
Benitez said the competition aims to promote academic excellence and competence, and at the same time, a test of quality and efficiency of learning under the new normal system of education affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This shall show the perseverance and quest for knowledge of our students as they live, learn and cope in the new normal,” he pointed out.
He also noted that since the onset of the pandemic , young people have been deprived of social interaction in a normal school environment and the inter-school event will stir enthusiasm among students, help build self-esteem and spark anew school pride.
Exciting prizes are in store for participants and winners, most of all, offer a new challenging experience for students, the press release said.
