Senator Francis Pangilinan on Saturday, June 28, said he will fulfill his campaign promise to work towards food security in the country and to bring down prices.

Pangilinan and his wife, megastar Sharon Cuneta, joined the inauguration of the Negros Occidental provincial government officials led by Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson at the Capitol in Bacolod City.

They thanked the governor and the Negrenses for their support in the May polls.

Pangilinan said they were in Negros as a gesture of appreciation for the support of the Negrenses.

“I won big here, I was number five,” he said.

“I believe in the governor, I’m happy he won and I’m also very grateful because he helped Kiko so much in the last election,” said Cuneta, who sang at the inauguration rites.

Pangilinan said he is hoping to be appointed chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture.

The senator said he will seek support for farmers and fisherfolk so food supply will increase, which would then bring down food prices,

He looks forward to working with local government officials in this regard, Pangilinan said.

“We can only bring agriculture forward if there is synergy between the national and local governments,” he said.

Pangilinan said he will also look into the red-striped soft scale insect (RSSI) infestation in sugarcane fields and what further assistance can be given by the Department of Agriculture.*
