Another ash eruption at Kanlaon Volcano generated grayish plumes that rose to 900 meters above the crater before drifting northwest Wednesday, Jan. 7, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The light ash emission began at 2:58 p.m. and ended at 8:30 p.m., Mari-Andylene Quintia, Phivolcs resident volcanologist at the Kanlaon Observatory in La Carlota City, said.

The volcano also had an ash eruption on Tuesday morning that lasted for three hours and 30 minutes. It generated a grayish plume that rose 800 meters tall, Phivolcs reported.

The ash emissions at Kanlaon have been lasting longer lately, Quintia said.

Kanlaon remains under Alert Level 2 due to increased unrest.*
