Kabankalan mayor concedes, urges support for new officials

Kabankalan Mayor Pedro Zayco in a statement issued Sunday, May 15, said he has accepted the results of the May 9 elections and is calling on Kabankalanons to support their city’s new officials.

“Let us support the new administration for the progress of Kabankalan City,” Zayco said.

Zayco (Nationalist People’s Coalition) was defeated by Tan-awan kagawad Benjie Martabu Miranda (Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan) in the May 9 polls.

Miranda, who was also a former barangay captain, garnered 36,889 votes to defeat Zayco who had 36,611 votes for mayor.

Miguel Montinola Zayco (Aksyon Demokratiko) who garnered 37,773 votes defeated incumbent Vice Mayor Raul Rivera (NPC) who had 25,790 votes.

The mayor in a statement to the people of Kabankalan said he respects their decision during the May 9 polls.

He also thanked them for giving him the opportunity to serve them and for their support for his administration.*
