‘Jolina’ damages P1.52M in crops

Tropical Storm “Jolina” floods damaged crops worth P1,527,210 in Negros Occidental on Monday and Tuesday.

OIC Provincial Agriculturist Dina Genzola said rice crop damage in Moises Padilla was P450,920 and in Sipalay City – P436,610 affecting 46 farmers.

La Castellana also reported P639,680 in crops damaged, Zeaphard Caelian, Disaster Management Program Division head, said.

Floods hit La Castellana, Isabela, Pontevedra, Hinigaran, Binalbagan, Cauayan, Moises Padilla and Sipalay City, he said.

Most of the residents who evacuated returned to their homes when the water subsided, Caelian said.

La Castellana reported two houses destroyed and 16 damaged, while Hinigaran reported one damaged house and Cauayan – one destroyed house, he added

The Philippine Coast Guard announced that the ports in Sagay and Escalante cities had reopened and sea travel in northern Negros had resumed.*
