Jealousy allegedly leads to stabbing of woman, American hubby arrested

A domestic dispute allegedly triggered by jealousy turned violent after a 37-year-old woman was stabbed by her American husband in Brgy. 5, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental early Sunday morning, March 1.

The victim, identified as Gina Lassus, sustained stab wounds to her stomach and face.

Responding police officers found the victim wounded inside their apartment and immediately rushed her to the Sipalay City Infirmary for treatment.

The suspect was identified as Carl Lassus, 47, an American national from North Philadelphia, USA, and the husband of the victim.

Police said the incident happened at around 1:30 a.m. and was reported an hour later by a neighbor who called authorities after hearing the victim cry for help.

A neighbor told police that the couple had a misunderstanding days before the incident.

Authorities said jealousy is being looked into as a possible motive.

The victim is reported to be in stable condition but may be transferred to a hospital in Bacolod City for further medical procedures.
