Rep. Javier Miguel “Javi” Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd Dustrict) has secured two school buildings from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) for Talisay City and Murcia on Friday, Sept. 25.
Each building is worth Php 55 million for a total of Php 110 million, a press release from his office said.
Benitez lobbied for the inclusion of the two Third District LGUs in PAGCOR’s school building program.
Outside the district, La Carlota City is the only other local government unit granted a building.
Both projects are three-storey, 12-classroom buildings covered by memoranda of agreement (MOA) among PAGCOR, the Department of Education (DepEd), and each LGU, the press release said.
PAGCOR will release each Php 55-million allocation in three tranches, with the first 50 percent, or Php 27.5 million, to be released upon execution of the MOA.
In Talisay, the building will rise at Don Hilarion G. Gonzaga Memorial High School in Barangay Concepcion, as authorized by the Sangguniang Panlungsod through Resolution No. 2026-242.
In its request to PAGCOR, the city government said the school has one of Talisay’s largest and fastest-growing student populations.
It added that overcrowded classrooms have forced the school to build makeshift rooms that are neither safe nor conducive to learning, and that the expansion of its Senior High School program has created a need for more classrooms and laboratories.
In Murcia, the building will rise at Amayco Elementary School in Barangay Amayco, as authorized by the Sangguniang Bayan through Resolution No. 2026-186.
The school has 400 enrollees and has reported classroom overcrowding.
The resolution states that the project aims to address classroom shortages and improve learning conditions. *
