Victorias Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez said on Tuesday, August 20, that he is deeply grateful for the endorsement of his father, Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez.

The Victorias mayor was apparently referring to his father’s statement that he would be the strongest candidate for congressman of the 3rd District of Negros Occidental in 2025.

”To receive the strong endorsement of Mayor Albee is an honor I do not take lightly. I am deeply grateful for this gesture,” the Victorias mayor said.

“As we all know, Mayor Albee is an accomplished public official who has significantly contributed to the progress of the third district during his time in office,” he said.

“For a young person like myself, the best course of action is to listen and learn from the successes and challenges of those who have come before us in public service. This wisdom is invaluable in our efforts to build a better future for the next generation,” he added.

The Victorias mayor on Monday night said any decision made regarding his candidacy in 2025 will be made in close consultation with his team and, most importantly, with the Victoriasanon people.

“No one else will make this announcement on my behalf. We will approach this matter with careful consideration and the respect it deserves,” he said.

The Bacolod mayor on Saturday said the 3rd District would have to be consulted on the congressional bet for 2025.

The 3rd District congressional seat has been left vacant with the appointment of Rep. Francisco Benitez as director general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.*
