Javi named House assistant majority leader, other Negros lawmakers to head committees

Rep. Javier Miguel “Javi” Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) has been appointed one of the Assistant Majority Leaders of the 20th Congress.

Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer (Neg. Occ., 4th District) is also expected to be named chairman of the House Committee on Franchise, while Rep. Alfredo Marañon III (neg. Occ., 2nd District) could remain chairman of the Committee on Natural Resources.

Benitez, in a statement Tuesday night, July 29, said his appointment as assistant majority leader is “both a privilege and a responsibility that I accept with humility and firm resolve to serve with purpose”.

“I feel truly honored and humbled to have been selected for this role. I extend my sincerest gratitude to my colleagues in Congress for their trust and confidence in my leadership,” he said.

Benitez said he is working together with Majority Leader Rep. Sandro Marcos (Ilocos Norte, 1st District) in ensuring the efficient and productive flow of legislative work in Congress.

“I am committed to advancing statutory measures that reflect the aspirations and needs of every Filipino. I will carry this responsibility with courage and a deep sense of duty,” he said.*
