ACT-CIS Partylist Rep. Erwin Tulfo said on Wednesday, Jan. 22, that he will continue to push for the protection of the media and the needs of Negros Occidental.

Tulfo is running for senator under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration slate.

He was recently ranked No.1 among the senatorial candidates in a survey conducted by OCTA Research with his brother, Ben, coming in second.

Their brother Raffy Tulfo is an incumbent senator.

It is in the hands of the voters if they want three Tulfos in the Senate, Erwin Tulfo said.

Tulfo, who was accompanied by ACT-CIS Partylist Rep. Eric Yap, visited Victorias City and Cadiz City on Wednesday.

Victorias Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez pledged his support for Tulfo at a lunch attended by officials and candidates of the 3rd District of Negros Occidental.

“Please don’t forget the Negros Island Region when you are senator,” Benitez also told Tulfo.

Tulfo, in turn, said he would look out for the needs of Negros.

“I will not make promises, I will just deliver,” said Tulfo, who was social welfare secretary during the term of president Rodrigo Duterte.

Tulfo, a former news anchor, broadcaster, and columnist, said he wants the law to exclude the media as witnesses in drug-related cases.

While the House has approved the amendment of Republic Act 9165 Sec 21, the Senate is yet to file its counterpart measure.

He said the law should be amended considering the dangers journalists face.

Tulfo also said he wants the Magna Carta for media benefits to be passed.

He cited the need to ensure that the media get retirement pay and hospitalization benefits.

Tulfo also met with Mayor Salvador Escalante in Cadiz City, which is celebrating its 50th Dinagsa Festival.

He asked Cadiznons to support his bid for the Senate.*
