It will be a Lacson-Ferrer tandem in 2022.
This was confirmed by Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer today, January 5, who said the United Negros Alliance (UNegA) and Love Negros coalition between him and Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson will remain in the 2022 polls.
Ferrer, UNegA president, said his party will not field a candidate against the governor amid talk that a former Bacolod official plans to run for the top post of the province in 2022.
That person is welcome to run for office, but any candidate against the governor will definitely not come from UNegA or Love Negros, Ferrer stressed.
Ferrer said he will run for vice governor under Lacson in 2022.
The relationship of the two groups is solid, we are talking about the development of the province and not about politics, Ferrer said.
Asked if the provincial government officials would field candidates in Bacolod City in 2022, Ferrer said they have not discussed that.
The city is not under our jurisdiction, the lone district of Bacolod has a separate kingdom, Ferrer said.
While a coalition will remain at the provincial level, Ferrer said they will respect local political rivalries in some towns and cities of Negros Occidental in the 2022 polls.
ON MURCIA
Board Member Andrew Montelibano also said for now he has no plans of running for mayor of Murcia in 2022, amid rumors circulating that he will do so.
The current mayor of Murcia is Gerardo Rojas whom Montelibano supported in the last election.
It is up to the present administration of Murcia to look into why such stories are circulating, he said.
Montelibano said he is very happy being a board member of Negros Occidental.
If he runs for reelection as board member of the third district of Negros Occidental, Montelibano also said he is confident that he will not be challenged by his first cousins, former board members David Lacson and Patrick Lacson.*
