‘Inday’ rains, floods  affect 3,600 Negrenses, many start returning home Sunday

        The more than 3,600 residents who evacuated from their homes amid heavy rains in Negros Occidental began returning home  Sunday, July 12, as the weather  improved, the    Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Program Office head Irene Bel Ploteña, said.

     The Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm Inday caused heavy rains and floods, hitting 46 barangays across 10 Local Government Units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental leaving 1,202 families (3,605 individuals) affected, according to a PDRRMO report issued at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 12.

Tropical Storm Inday has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

        La Castellana  has the highest number of affected residents with  409  families comprising 1,221 individuals.

Pontevedra was second most severely  with  289 families and 778 individuals displaced across 8 barangays.

Isabela also sustained significant disruptions with 174 families (510 individuals) affected, followed by Moises Padilla with 98 families (290 individuals), and San Enrique with 73 families (246 individuals).

 Binalbagan recorded a similar scale of displacement with 70 families (270 individuals), while La Carlota City and Bago City  experienced more moderate impacts, logging 40 families (133 individuals) and 30 families (81 individuals) respectively.

The lowest relative displacement figures were reported in the southern localities, with Sipalay City recording 10 affected families (47 individuals) and Hinoba-an managing the smallest displacement volume at 9 families (29 individuals).

        One house was destroyed and  21 were damaged, the PDRRMO reported.

In Sipalay one house was destroyed and  nine were damaged.

There   were also damaged houses in Hinoba-an  – 8, Pontevedra -3 and  Binalbagan -1.*
