Human rights advocate says raps trumped up

The Department of Justice has filed a case against Negros-based Paghidaet sa Kauswagan Development Group (PDG) for violation of Republic Act 10268 or the Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act.

Felipe Levy Gelle Jr., former advocacy staff of PDG and a volunteer of the Human Rights Advocates Negros, said on Wednesday that he was included in the charges filed before the Regional Trial Court Branch 31 in Iloilo City on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

“I remain steadfast in my conviction that I was politically targeted by the state for my activism and advocacy and these cases are purely trumped up cases,” Gelle said in a press statement on Wednesday.

This is the third case filed by the AFP against me alongside death threats, red tagging, vilification and surveillance, he added.

As of now we are securing documents regarding the filing of the information as we have not received the resolution of the case, he said.

“The filing of this trumped up charges will not shake my conviction to work for human rights and genuine social change,” Gelle said.*
