Senator Risa Hontiveros underscored the link between peacekeeping and community development during her visit to the 303rd Infantry “Brown Eagle” Brigade at Camp Gerona, Brgy. Minoyan, Murcia, Negros Occidental, on Friday, Sept. 19.
The senator commended the brigade and its line battalions including the 15th, 79th, and 94th Infantry Battalions, for their continued role in safeguarding Negros Island.
In her “Talk to Troops,” Hontiveros stressed that collaboration between the military, local government units, and civilians is key to building sustainable peace.
The senator also praised their efforts not only in counter-insurgency but also in helping create conditions where communities can thrive in peace.
During her visit, Hontiveros also put a spotlight on the welfare of soldiers and their families, citing their sacrifices in the line of duty.
She vowed support for measures that improve living conditions, healthcare, and benefits for military personnel and their dependents, recognizing them as vital partners in securing long-term development in Negros and beyond.
Her visit, the brigade said, affirms the continuing partnership between policymakers and the armed forces in pursuing stability, social progress, and a just and peaceful society for Negros and the country.*
