Mayor Grace Arceo has ordered the suspension of work in all government offices and classes in public and private schools in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday, Feb. 25, to mark the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
February 25 is not a national non-working holiday.
“The EDSA People Power Revolution of February 1986 stands as a monumental chapter in our nation’s story and a testament to the world that the collective pursuit of truth, justice, and liberty can peacefully dismantle even the most formidable walls of oppression”, she said in Executive Order 008, Series of 2026.
“The spirit of EDSA is not merely a memory of the past but a living legacy of courage and unyielding faith in democracy that continues to define our identity as Filipinos and our responsibilities as citizens of a free republic”, Arceo added.
“The local government of Hinigaran believes that by providing a day of respite from official duties and school requirements, we empower our workers and our youth to pause, reflect, and engage in meaningful activities that honor the sacrifices of those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today,” the mayor said.*
