A Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) employee was arrested after the police recovered a firearm during the implementation of a search warrant in Sitio Ma-asin, Brgy. Bato, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

The police identified the suspect as alias “Panoy,” 45, married and an employee of the Hinigaran MDRRMO.

The operation was conducted by the Hinigaran police with support from the Provincial Intelligence Unit and the 2nd Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Force Company.

Authorities said the search warrant was served for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Recovered during the operation were a .45 caliber pistol, a magazine assembly, and three rounds of ammunition.

Police said the operation stemmed from a report by a concerned citizen alleging that the suspect had brandished a firearm and issued death threats.

Authorities said firearm verification showed that the suspect was not a licensed firearm holder, prompting the filing and issuance of a search warrant.

The suspect is currently in police custody pending the filing of appropriate charges*
