The alleged highest ranking leader of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) in Negros was one of two killed in encounters with 94th Infantry Battalion soldiers in Barangay Bi-ao, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, a Philippine Army official said on Sunday, Feb. 1.
Reynaldo Erecre, alias Amik, alleged secretary of the Komiteng Rehiyon – Negros of the CPP-NPA was killed 4 p.m. on Friday, Brig. Gen. Ted Dumosmog, 303rd Brigade commander, said.
“That’s a major blow to the rebel movement”, he said.
His body was about to be claimed by the sister Sunday afternoon, they just needed confirmation that she is a real relative, he said.
They were contacting Roy Erecre, the brother of Reynaldo, for verification, he said.
Roy Erecre, a former National Democratic Front (NDF) consultant, surrendered to Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle “Aris” Aumentado in November 2025, Dumosmog said.
Killed in the first encounter in Brgy Bi-an at 2:50 a.m. Friday was Regie Pacheco, alias Dante, an alleged finance and logistics officer and a Regional Strike Force member of the NPA’s Central Negros 2.
“The encounter successfully thwarted an attempt to sabotage government infrastructure projects in Barangay Bi-ao,” a 94th IB report said.
“The armed group sought to burn heavy equipment being used for ongoing development work, but the swift and decisive action of the troops prevented the destruction through timely information from residents,” it added.
Two more alleged members of the NPA were also killed in an encounter with 47th Infantry Battalion soldiers in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, 7:11 a.m. Saturday, January 31, Dumosmog said.
They remained unidentified as of Sunday, he said.
The 47th IB responded to reports of concerned residents of Baranagays Sandayao and Binobohan in Guihulngan on the presence of the rebels.
Government troops immediately conducted focused military operations which resulted in an encounter with the armed group, the death of the two and the recovery of an M-16 rifle, a .45 caliber pistol, a hand grenade, ammunition and assorted subversive documents, the Army reported.
“We call on the remaining remnants of the CTG (Communist Terrorist Group) to finally abandon their terroristic way of life and return to the folds of the law. Begin a new chapter in life by availing of the government’s reintegration programs,” Maj. Gen. Michael G. Samson, 3rnd Infantry Division commander, said.
“Through these initiatives, you can avoid misfortune and death, reconcile with your families, and experience full healing within the community that has always cared for you,” he added.*
