A high-value drug personality and a minor were arrested, and an estimated P1.7 million worth of suspected shabu was seized in a buy-bust operation conducted by Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) operatives in Bacolod City on Monday evening, Sept. 22.
The operation took place along Vicente Yap Street, Brgy. Singcang-Airport, Bacolod, where alias “Roy,” 25, single, unemployed, and a resident of Brgy. Vista Alegre, was intercepted.
Also taken into custody was a 15-year-old boy identified as alias “Junior,” also from Vista Alegre.
Authorities confiscated one sachet of suspected shabu sold to a poseur-buyer, 15 more sachets, two knot-tied plastic bags of suspected shabu, a .357 caliber revolver with live ammunition, a Toyota Vios, and the buy-bust money.
The recovered drugs weighed about 250 grams, the police said.
Police said the buy-bust was launched after intelligence operatives validated reports linking alias “Roy” to illegal drug activities in several barangays in Bacolod.
Alias “Roy” is now detained at Police Station 8, facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 for illegal possession of firearms and RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Alias “Junior” was turned over to the Social Development Center for assessment, but may be held liable under the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act if found to have acted with discernment.
Regional Director BGen. Arnold Thomas Ibay said the operation is part of heightened anti-drug measures in preparation for the MassKara Festival.
“This accomplishment is a strong message to those who continue to engage in illegal drugs that PRO-NIR remains vigilant. Our commitment is to ensure that the celebration is not only festive but also safe and secure for all,” Ibay said.
