What was supposed to be a quick grab turned into a beating for a suspected thief who was caught red-handed trying to steal a motorcycle helmet near the Bacolod City College in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod City, on Thursday, July 15.
The suspect, identified as alias “Herman,” a resident of Brgy. Mansilingan, was cornered and mauled by his alleged victim, alias “Ray,” a resident of Brgy. Sta. Rosa in Murcia, Negros Occidental, along with his brother and several bystanders who witnessed the attempted theft.
Capt. Rosalino Pugoy Jr., , Bacolod Police Station 6 commander, said the victim caught Herman holding his helmet and immediately gave chase, leading to a citizen’s arrest.
“Herman has a history of theft cases, particularly targeting motorcycle helmets,” Pugoy said, adding that the suspect typically uses a cutter to snip the helmet straps from parked motorcycles.
However, many of his previous cases did not prosper due to the lack of formal complaints.
Despite suffering minor injuries from the scuffle, Herman is now in police custody and will face fresh theft charges.*
