Heavy rains are causing continuous soil erosion at tailings pond number one of the defunct Maricalum Mining Corp. in Barangay San Jose, Sipalay City.
They have cordoned off the road where motorcycles have been passing, as there is a danger of collapse, said Dionilo Bogtae, Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office coordinator, on Friday, August 29.
An alternative route has been created for residents riding motorcycles from barangays Gil Montilla and San Jose, he said.
A landslide occurred in the area on Tuesday due to heavy rain, Bogtae added.
Bogtae said they are closely monitoring the situation.*
